Red River Radio Spotlight: Shreveport Symphony Orchestra presents Wagner & Strauss

Bill Beckett spoke with pianist Asiya Korepanova and Dr. Lester Senter Wilson, the Executive Director of the Wideman International Piano Competition about the Shreveport Symphony Orchestra’s concert on Saturday, November 16 at 7:30 pm in Riverview Theatre. The concert features Asiya Korepanova in the Burlekse by Richard Strauss and Twyla Robinson in the Four Last Songs of Richard Strauss as well as his tone poem Don Juan. Airs Monday, November 11 at 11 a.m. On this week's concert by the San Francisco Symphony, Esa-Pekka Salonen will take the podium and lead the orchestra in music by Sibelius, Salonen, Wagner and Schoenberg. The concert opens with Sibelius' Pohjola's Daughter, Op. 49 and then violinist Leila Josefowcz joines the orchestra for the Violin concerto by Salonen. Soprano Christine Brewer will then be featured in excerpts from Wagner's opera Gotterdammerung and the program concludes with the Five Pieces for Orchestra by Arnold Schoenberg.

Airs Monday, November 4 at 11 a.m. This week on the San Francisco Symphony music director Michael Tilson Thomas takes the podium once again and will be joined by Gil Shaham for a performance of the Violin Concerto in D Major, Op. 77 by Brahms.  The concert opens with the Prelude to Act III of Lohengrin by Wagner and also features Schoenberg's arrangement of the Brahms Piano Quartet no. 1 in g, op. 25 and the Variations on a Theme of Haydn by Brahms to close out the program.

Airs saturday, May 11 at 11 a.m. The 2012-13 Metropolitan Opera Radio Broadcast season concludes with a live broadcast of Götterdämmerung, the fourth and final opera in Wagner’s epic Der Ring des Nibelungen. Met Principal Conductor Fabio Luisi leads the performance, which stars soprano Deborah Voigt as Brünnhilde, opposite Swedish tenor Lars Cleveman, who makes his network debut as Siegfried. The cast also includes Karen Cargill as Brünnhilde’s sister, Waltraute; Hans-Peter König as the evil Hagen; Iain Paterson as Gunther, king of the Gibichungs; and Wendy Bryn Harmer as his sister Gutrune. Götterdämmerung will be heard live over the Toll Brothers-Metropolitan Opera International Radio Network at 11 a.m. CT on Saturday, May 11.
