LSU Shreveport institute studies impact of student consulting to nonprofits

Helen Wise, an associate professor of sociology at LSU Shreveport, is exploring the impact of service learning projects.

The Institute for Nonprofit Administration and Research at LSU Shreveport is examining the value of service learning carried out by graduate students in the nonprofit administration degree.

As part of the program, students craft detailed proposals for fundraising, planned giving and development for a nonprofit participating in its case study. LSUS sociologist Helen Wise wants to glean the long-term value of the students’ efforts for the nonprofit.

Architect speaks in Ruston on spreading good design

Architect and national advocate for sustainable design, John Cary, takes his good-design-is-within-reach message to Louisiana Tech University for a lecture Dec. 11 at 6:30 p.m in Wyly Auditorium. Cary is the founding editor of publicinterestdesign.org. He said so often good design is inaccessible to underprivileged communities because there’s a misperception that it's expensive. He feels that service learning should be a key part of all architecture programs nationwide.
