More than 1,200 children will receive a free back-to-school checkup in July through a health fair put on by Christus Health Shreveport-Bossier.

Elementary through high school students will get a blood pressure check, immunization check, body mass index or BMI calculation, dental and vision screenings. Yolanda Green, a registered nurse with Christus School-Based Health, says in its sixth year the event gets bigger every time.

A Cincinnati design firm is refining its plans for a children’s museum in Shreveport after a week-long visit with its client Sci-Port: Louisiana’s Science Center

Two museums in Shreveport and Alexandria have formed a partnership to expose more Central Louisiana children to hands-on science learning. With funding from the Central Louisiana Community Foundation, the T.R.E.E. House Children’s Museum in Alexandria will host a traveling exhibit from Sci-Port: Louisiana’s Science Center. Hundreds of children will take part in the Gee Whiz Science Carnvial during its five-day exhibit in Alexandria. T.R.E.E. House director Kara Edwards said she hopes this collaboration with Sci-Port opens up new doors for her museum.

More than 150 artifacts recovered from the legendary Titanic are set to go on display at Sci-Port: Louisiana's Science Center. "Titanic: The Traveling Exhibition" opens Sept. 29 and runs through Jan. 30.
