10:01 Spotlight - Harmony On The Red

Bill Beckett talks with Philip Maxfield and the men of Pleasant Street Barbershop Quartet about the Harmony On The Red showcase and competition this weekend. On March 23 & 24 voices will be raised here in Shreveport as the Barbershop Harmony Society's "Harmony On The Red" returns. Approximately 400 participants featuring both Barbershop Quartets and Choruses will compete for Top Honors. The competition will take place at Caddo Magnet High School Performing Arts Center. Free Harmony Education classes will be held on Friday, March 23 and 4 p.m. and Saturday, March 24 at 3 p.m.

10:01 Spotlight - A Forest Insect Alphabet

Dan Maxwell travels to the Museum of East Texas in Lufkin to speak with Executive Director J.P.  McDonald, entomologist Dr. David Kulhavy and artists Charles Jones about the A Forest Insect Alphabet exhibit.

This exhibit features framed pages of the book, A Forest Insect Alphabet.  This book was hand printed and hand bound at La Nana Creek Press, Nacogdoches, Texas.  Charles Jones created the color woodcuts and black and white engravings.  Entomologist, Dr. David Kulhavy provided the scientific descriptions and wrote the quatrains to the songs about forest insects.

Austin State University in Nacogdoches, Texas. The competition holds the highest standards in artistry and performance, attracting musicians from all around the world to East Texas. As an annual event, the competition alternates between piano and strings, bringing rising artists from both disciplines to compete and perform for lucrative prizes and future engagements.
