Metropolitan Opera: Rossini's La Donna del Lago

Airs Saturday, March 14, at 12 noon. The 2014-15 Metropolitan Opera Radio Broadcast season continues with the live network premiere of La Donna del Lago, Rossini's opera about romantic and political upheaval in 16th-century Scotland.  The virtuoso cast is led by mezzo-soprano Joyce DiDonato in the title role of Elena, the "Lady of the Lake," and tenor Juan Diego Flórez as King James V, who falls in love with her. Mezzo-soprano Daniela Barcellona sings the role of Elena’s beloved Malcolm, and tenor John Osborn is the King's sworn enemy, the highland chief Rodrigo, to whom Elena is betrothed.  The acclaimed young bel canto maestro Michele Mariotti conducts. La Donna del Lago will be heard live over the Toll Brothers-Metropolitan Opera International Radio Network at 12:00 p.m. CT on Saturday, March 14.

Metropolitan Opera: Rossini’s Il Barbiere di Siviglia

Airs Saturday, December 6 at 12 noon. The Metropolitan Opera’s 2014-15 season of live Saturday matinee radio broadcasts begins with Rossini’s Il Barbiere di Siviglia – The Barber of Seville.  The comedy stars mezzo-soprano Isabel Leonard as the feisty Rosina; tenor Lawrence Brownlee as the lovestruck Count Almaviva; and baritone Christopher Maltman in his first Met appearances in the title role of the resourceful barber Figaro. Michele Mariotti conducts the performance, which also features Maurizio Muraro as Dr. Bartolo and Paata Burchuladze as Don Basilio.

Metropolitan Opera: Bellini’s I Puritani

Airs Saturday, May 3 at 12 noon. The 2013-14 Metropolitan Opera Radio Broadcast season continues with a live broadcast of Bellini’s I Puritani.  Acclaimed Russian soprano Olga Peretyatko will make her network broadcast debut as Elvira, the Puritan maiden who slips in and out of madness after being abandoned at the altar.  The revival also stars tenor Lawrence Brownlee as Elvira's beloved Arturo, baritone Mariusz Kwiecien as his rival Riccardo, and bass Michele Pertusi as Elvira's uncle, Giorgio; they are led by the rising Italian conductor Michele Mariotti, who is married to Peretyatko.  I Puritani will be heard live over the Toll Brothers-Metropolitan Opera International Radio Network.
