A $500,000 grant from the Caddo Parish Commission will establish a yearlong, non-credit certificate program in digital media at LSU Shreveport. Program director John Miralles says applicants must have completed high school will go through a rigorous evaluation process before being admitted to the 35-hour per week program taught by area industry professionals.

LSU Shreveport is following its disaster recovery plan while workers repair the underground power system on campus. A vast majority of faculty and staff cannot report to work this week while power is out.

LSU System president John Lombardi says northwest Louisiana colleges and universities must collaborate to provide more degree offerings. He says merging LSU Shreveport into Louisiana Tech would shrink LSUS to nothing.

About 130 people attended a higher education forum at LSU Shreveport. Speakers criticized a new report that recommends a merger between Louisiana Tech in Ruston and LSU Shreveport.

The Louisiana Small Business Development Center tapped south Louisiana economic developer Mike Tomlinson to head its office at LSU Shreveport. Tomlinson takes over after nearly a year's vacancy in the post.
