Video Game Jam in Shreveport/Bossier seeks gamers for marathon coding fun

Gaming enthusiasts will have two days to design a video game as part of the DigiFest South Game Jam that begins Friday at Cohab in Shreveport.

Teams will have one weekend to complete all coding and content as part of the competition. LSU Shreveport computer science and English instructor Jon Baarsch teaches a course about storytelling in video games and drawing connections to traditional literary works.

Louisiana Tech to discuss 'big data' with Ark-La-Tex firms

Louisiana Tech University is set to host its first conference on business analytics next month at its Shreveport Center. The discussion will focus on how to harness "big data" – all that valuable information people generate day after day. 

The ability to take big data and turn it into useful information for businesses cuts across all sectors, according to Jim Cochran, a professor of quantitative methods. Cochran has assembled a variety of speakers on big data.

Architect speaks in Ruston on spreading good design

Architect and national advocate for sustainable design, John Cary, takes his good-design-is-within-reach message to Louisiana Tech University for a lecture Dec. 11 at 6:30 p.m in Wyly Auditorium. Cary is the founding editor of publicinterestdesign.org. He said so often good design is inaccessible to underprivileged communities because there’s a misperception that it's expensive. He feels that service learning should be a key part of all architecture programs nationwide.
