Leonidas Kavakos

Airs Monday, July 31, 2017, at 1 p.m. The San Francisco Symphony continues its season of broadcast concerts as violinist Leonidas Kavakos is featured in the Violin Concerto in D minor by Jean Sibelius in a concert that opens with the The Swan of Tuonela by Sibelius closes with Claude Debussy's Nocturnes. Music Director Michael Tilson Thomas conducts and will also lead the orchestra in Schumann's Symphony No. 3 in E-flat major, Opus 97, his "Rhenish" symphony.

Airs Tuesday, January 22 at 11:00 a.m.  Yannick Nézet-Séguin, in his first year as music director, leads The Philadelphia Orchestra in Ravel's La Valse and Shostakovich's intense, politically charged Symphony No. 5.  Leonidas Kavakos, arguably "the most deeply satisfying violinist performing today" (The Philadelphia Inquirer), joins them for the New York premiere of Osvaldo Golijov's highly anticipated Violin Concerto.
