The Gardens of the American Rose Center in Shreveport is relaxing its policy on professional photography in its gardens. It announced Monday it’s repealing its $50 photography fee and $100 deposit that professional photographers had to pay, according to American Rose Society executive director Laura Seabaugh.

Staff of the American Rose Society, headquartered in Shreveport, is in Syracuse, N.Y., for the sold-out national convention. More than 400 rose growers from around the country –including hybridizers from Britain and France -- will converge on the fall conference that gets underway Thursday and runs through the weekend.

Directors of plant societies from around the country will convene at the American Rose Center in Shreveport for a weekend summit on how to preserve their organizations. The American Rose Society is hosting the meeting that will discuss thorny issues about how these groups are to stay relevant when their member rolls continue to decline. American Rose Society executive director Jeff Ware hopes to exchange ideas with his counterparts who represent groups like the camellia, orchid, day lily and iris.
