10:01 Spotlight: LA Film Prize 2012

Bill Beckett talks with Gregory Kallenberg, Executive Director of the LA Film Prize 2012 Festival about the events this weekend at the Robinson Film Center, the Capri, and Artspace. 20 films will be shown in numerous viewings over the festival weekend.  Opening Ceremonies begin Friday at 5:00 p.m. with a welcome to the filmmakers and to festival-goers. 10:01 Spotlight: How Can I Keep From Singing?

Bill Beckett talks David Hobson, Director of Centenary Choir and Music Minister at First United Methodist Church about "How Can I Keep From Singing" a choral concert featuring Centenary College’s Choir and Camerata, the First United Methodist Church Chancel Choir, area church choir members and directors, the First United Methodist Brass, and organist Ray Peebles, all under the direction of Dr. Eric Nelson. How Can I Keep from Singing is a beautiful hymn text that lifts the spirit through song as an expression of the deeper soul. The experience will feature classic and new sacred anthems as well as favorite hymn arrangements of the congregation. Summer Stages

Airs Monday, October 1 at 11:00 a.m.  This week on Summer Stages we're heading to Russia by way of Savannah. Violinist Daniel Hope and Benny Kim take us on a Journey with Tchaikovsky Sextet in D minor "Souvenir of Florence." Philip Dukes and Carla Maria Rodrigues will join then on viola and Josephine Knight and Keith Robinson on cellist. Then violinist Daniel Hope, violist Philip Dukes and cellists Josephine Knight and Keith Robinson will present Arensky’s String Quartet No. 2 Op.35. To close the program pianist Menahem Pressler joins violinist Daniel Hope and cellist Josephine Knight for the Piano Trio No.4, Op.90 by Dvorak.

Fiesta!

Airs Saturday, September 29 at 3:00 p.m.  Fiesta! is a new, original production devoted to Latino concert music, and brings artistically significant compositions from Latin America, Spain and Portugal to your listeners. The acclaimed composer, musician, performer, and professor Elbio Barilari is the host and creative force behind this series. He invites listeners to enjoy and learn about the lively and compelling sounds of Latin American classical music. On this weeks program we'll hear three rarely heard orchestral works of the great tango master, Astor Piazzolla. Join us for his Suite for Oboe and String Orchestra; the Tres Movimientos Sinfonicos; and his Suite Punta del Este.
