Can Do Stories of Black Visionaries, Seekers, and Entrepreneurs

Airs Sunday, February 3 at 6 p.m. From The Kitchen Sisters, "Can Do: Stories of Black Visionaries, Seekers, and Entrepreneurs," with host, Golden Globe and Emmy Award-winning actress, Alfre Woodard. These stories come from The Kitchen Sisters collection -- stories of black pioneers, self-made men and self-taught women, neighborhood heroes and visionaries. People who said "yes we can" and then did. A man tapes the history of his town with a scavenged cassette recorder, a woman fights for social justice with a pie, a DJ ignites his community with a sound. Join us for this richly produced and deeply layered hour long special that resonates for Black History Month, or any month.  Produced by The Kitchen Sisters (Nikki Silva & Davia Nelson) and Roman Mars.

Metropolitan Opera: Rossini's Le Comte Ory

Airs Saturday, February 2 at 12 noon. The 2012-13 Metropolitan Opera Radio Broadcast season continues with a live broadcast of Rossini’s comedy Le Comte Ory. Tenor Juan Diego Flórez will reprise his acclaimed portrayal of the amorous title character, first seen at the Met in 2011. The 27-year-old South African soprano Pretty Yende makes her network debut as Adèle, the beautiful noblewoman that Ory schemes to seduce.

For our live set ... Mountain Dulcimer meets Mandolin and bass in a lively concert featuring the Aaron O'Rourke Trio.

Savannah Music Festival: James Hunter Live

Airs Thursday, January 31 at 8 pm. Taking vocal cues from Sam Cooke and James Brown and wrapping them in the cozy warmth of rhythm and blues, singer/guitarist James Hunter hails from England but has American soul running through his blood. In this episode, we listen to Hunter's SMF performance from the Trustees Theater on a double-bill with Allen Toussaint.
