Newport Jazz Festival: The Three Cohens Live

Airs Tuesday, April 9 at 9 p.m. Yuval Cohen on saxophone, Anat Cohen on reeds and Avishai Cohen on trumpet. They are all siblings from Israel. They're also among the growing number of terrific jazz musicians from that country; Anat and Avishai have both had bookings for their own bands at Newport in recent years. Naturally, the three Cohens occasionally record and perform together as a band, whose original pieces and arrangements are supported by a rhythm section. It's a family reunion you won't secretly dread. They are joined on stage by Reuben Rogers on bass, Rudy Royston on drums and Aaron Goldberg on piano.

The Elias String Quartet

Airs Thursday, April 4 at 11:00 a.m. "What I feel for Schumann goes beyond love and admiration," says Jonathan Biss. "The intensity of his passion for music, and his will to use music as a poetic and personal, yet fully realized and deeply expressive language strike me as the highest aims imaginable for a musician." On this program, part of his season-long focus on Mozart, Janácek, and Schumann, Biss joins members of the Elias String Quartet for Schumann's Piano Quartet.

Jazz At Lincoln Center: SF Jazz Collective - songbook of Stevie Wonder

Airs Monday, April 8 at 9 p.m. Iconic compositions like "My Cheri Amour", "Superstition", "Do I Do", and "Sir Duke" are rediscovered by the group the New York Times described as the "superbrain for what serious jazz sounds like now."  The SF Jazz Collective is Stefon Harris (vibes), Edward Simon (piano), Miguel Zenon (alto sax), Matt Penman (bass), Eric Harland (drums), Avishai Cohen (trumpet), Mark Turner (sax), and Robin Eubanks (trombone).

Pittsburgh Symphony

Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra

Airs Monday, April 8 at 11 a.m. This week's Pittsburgh Symphony concert features Christoph Koning who makes his Heinz Hall debut with the Prokofiev Symphony No. 1 and the Brahms Second Symphony . Pianist Gabriela Montero, who trained at the Royal Academy of Music and is known for her incredible improvisations, returns to Heinz Hall to perform Prokofiev’s Piano Concerto No. 3.
