The Lyric Opera of Chicago broadcasts returns to Red River Radio following the end of the Metropolitan Opera season with eight new productions! Since its early days, Lyric Opera of Chicago has been regarded as one of the top three US opera companies, along with the Met and San Francisco. Chicago boasts an opera company that’s second to none, with stellar casts, sets, and one of the finest orchestra in the world. Red River Radio is pleased to bring this glorious opera showcase back to our schedule. Opera lovers will enjoy and exciting season.

Airs Saturday, June 4, at 12 noon. This week the Lyric Opera of Chicago presents Alban Berg's Wozzeck with Tomasz Koniecnzy in the lead role and Angela Denoke as Marie. The production also features Gerhard Siegel as The Captain, Stefan Vinke as Drum Major, and Brindley Sherratt as The Doctor. Sir David McVicar directs and Michael Black is the Chorus Master and Sir Andrew Davis conducts the Lyric Opera orchestra and chorus.

Airs Saturday, May 28, at 12 noon. The Lyric Opera of Chicago Broadcasts returns this week with Gioachino Rossini's Cinderella featuring Isabel Leonard in the title roll with Alessandro Corbelli as Don Magifico, Lawrence Brownlee as Prince Ramiro, Vito Priante as Dandini, Christian Van Horn as Alidoro, Diana Newman as Clorinda, an Annie Rosen as Tisbe. Joan Font directs this production with Michael Black as chorus master and Sir Andrew Davis conducts.

Airs Saturday, July 11, at 12 noon. On this week's broadcast from the Lyric Opera of Chicago the opera that has left audiences spellbound for over a century, Puccini's Tosca. A fiery Deva, the rebel artist and the sadistic police chief for who all Rome trembles. This production stars Tatiana Serjan as Tosca, Brian Jagde as Cavaradossi, and Evgeny Nikitin as Scarpia, with Richard Ollarsaba as Angelotti, Dale Travis as Sacristan, and Rodell Rosel as Spoletta. The production also features Bradley Smoak as Sciarrone, Annie Wagner as Shepherd, and Anthony Clark Evans as the Jailer. John Caird will lead the the Lyric Opera Orchestra and Chorus along with the Chicago Children's Choir in this performance.

Airs Saturday, July 4, at 12 noon. On this week's broadcast from the Lyric Opera of Chicago we present George Gershwin’s classic Porgy & Bess featuring Eric Owens as Porgy and Adina Aaron as Bess with Hlengiwe Mkhwanazi as Clara; Chase Taylor as Mingo; Jermaine Smith as Sportin’ Life; Norman Garrett as Jake; Karen Slack as Serena; Bernard Holcomb as Robbins; Earl Hazell as Jim; Curtis Bannister as Peter; Veronica Chapman-Smith as Lily; and Gwendolyn Brown as Maria. Ward Stare will lead the Lyric Opera Orchestra and Chorus and Michael Black is our chorus master. Suzanne Nance will host.

Airs on Saturday, June 27, at 12 noon. On this week's Lyric Opera of Chicago, suppressed for more that 40 years, Mieczyslaw Weinberg's opera The Passenger is the story of a former Nazi SS Officer haunted by her past and stunned when she believes a fellow passenger if a former prisoner. Hosted by Suzanne Nance with commentary by Rogers Pines. the powerful and provocative opera stars Amanda Majeski as Marta and Daveda Karanas as Liese, with Brandon Jovanovich as Walter, Joshua Hopkins as Tadeusz, and Kelly Kaduce as Katya. Sir Andrew Davis will lead the Lyric Opera Orchestra and Chorus.
