TransCanada continues grant funding program in East Texas

Pipeline giant TransCanada is again offering grants to east Texas counties through its charitable fund.

TransCanada Pipelines USA is offering grants to 18 counties that are in the path of the southern leg of its Keystone XL pipeline and related activity.

The TransCanada Charitable Fund seeks grant requests of up to $5,000 from nonprofits and government entities in three broad categories:

-         community (initiatives that bond and engage residents);

-          safety (initiatives that enable emergency personnel to respond quickly and effectively); and,

-          environment (initiatives that conserve important habitat and educate the public about conservation).

According to a news release from the Tyler-based East Texas Communities Foundation, grant requests must be received by May 16 at 5 p.m.

TransCanada’s Keystone pipeline transports crude from Cushing, Oklahoma -- the largest crude oil storage hub in the U.S. -- to Gulf Coast refineries.
