Shreveport helicopter firm partners with high school aviation program

Bossier Parish School Board

A Shreveport-based helicopter transportation firm is partnering with a Bossier City high school to train up a new generation of pilots.

Metro Aviation announced a $15,000 donation Wednesday of a flight simulator to Airline High School. In addition, it announced the creation of five paid internships and a generous tuition assistance program for students who pursue collegiate aviation degrees.

According to a Bossier Parish School Board news release, some out-of-state families have expressed interest in moving to the area specifically for Airline’s unique aviation program.

The new flight simulator will be part of the school’s junior ROTC program. It will allow students to get a feel for the cockpit and practice virtual takeoffs and landings at any airport in the world.

Airline’s ground school instructor Maj. Greg Kimbrough said in a statement, “This type of paid internship can lead to a lifetime career in the aviation industry and is an opportunity that college students would love to have.”

Airline High School launched the aviation program a year ago.

Louisiana Tech University partnered with Airline for dual enrollment coursework enabling students to receive college credit.
