DEQ Resumes Mercury Testing in Louisiana Fish

LOUISIANA FISH TESTING:  The State of Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality has revived its mercury testing program this summer to update data on mercury levels in fish that are caught and consumed.  The program was suspended in 2008 due to budget cuts but has received funding for the next four years. Consuming fish with high mercury levels can cause neurological problems especially for children and infants.  Pregnant women are advised to limit fish consumption.
