COLORADO VOTE ON DRILLING - Meanwhile, a ballot measure in the Rocky Mountain State may have implications in other oil and gas states like Texas, Arkansas and Louisiana as Colorado voters get to decide whether on limiting oil and gas drilling near neighborhoods.
According to Houston Public Media, it's a ballot measure that Texas drillers are watching carefully. The reason: Colorado’s top oil and gas drillers are subsidiaries of Texas-based Anadarko Petroleum and Noble Energy, both companies have their headquarters in the Houston area. If voters approve the upcoming measure on the State of Colorado’s ballot, it would block new drilling on more than half the state’s land. These Texas-based companies have a big stake in the outcome. And Robert Thibault with the Haynes Boone law firm in Denver, says it’s not just Houston drillers that would be impacted.
“You have service companies based in Houston that have significant operations here, and also you have financial groups, private equity groups, that have significant investments in Colorado that would be directly affected as well.”
Texas is already a presence in the debate over the measure: Anadarko has poured millions into a Colorado political campaign opposing the drilling limits.
