Barksdale Air Force Base announces all-female crews

For the first time in Air Force history, two all-female crews of B-52s will fly training missions Tuesday, March 22.

Barksdale Air Force Base’s 2nd Bomb Wing said in a news release these history-making flights are in recognition of Women’s History Month.

They highlight the contribution women have made in public service and government jobs.

All intercontinental ballistic missile alert crews and select B-52 flying crews in the continental U.S. will be staffed by women today, according to the statement.

The diversity that is represented through the Air Force and the 2nd Bomb Wing will be seen in the all-female crews that range in rank from lieutenant to colonel.

The first-of-its-kind event is to showcase the professionalism of women officers in the U.S. Air Force.
