The Cleveland Orchestra Live

Airs Saturday, September 29 at 12:00 noon. Red River Radio is pleased to bring back the Cleveland Orchestra for another superb season of broadcast concerts from the orchestra's home at Severance Hall in Cleveland and from concerts performed around the country and the world. On this week's concert we'll hear Pierre-Laurent Aimard as conductor and pianist along with the Cleveland Orchestra Chorus. The concert opens with Schoenberg's Three Pieces for Piano, Op. 11. Then we'll hear Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 18 in Bb, K. 456; Stravinsky's Symphonies of Wind Instruments (1947 revision); and Stravinsky's Symphony of Psalms (1948 revision).

Russian Accents: Rachmaninoff, Stravinsky and the Piano

Airs Saturday, September 1 at 3:00 p.m. Join us for Part seven of an exploration of the piano music of Rachmaninoff and Stravinsky with commentary by Valery Gergiev, Alexander Toradze, Gianandrea Noseda and Joseph Horowitz. This week we continue our exploration of the piano works of Stravinsky, with Mozart's Fugue in C Minor, K. 546 featuring Igor and Soulima Stravinsky as the pianists. Next we'll hear Stravinsky's Piano Sonata with George Vatchnadze on piano, the Concerto for Piano and Winds featuring the Post Classical Ensemble and Alexander Toradze as the pianist. The hour concludes with the first movement from Stravinsky's Capriccio for Piano and Orchestra featuring Alexander Toradze and Sangwon Kim on piano.

Russian Accents: Rachmaninoff, Stravinsky and the Piano

Airs Saturday, August 25 at 3:00 p.m. Join us for Part six of an exploration of the piano music of Rachmaninoff and Stravinsky with commentary by Valery Gergiev, Alexander Toradze, Gianandrea Noseda and Joseph Horowitz. All performances on this program are live. This week we continue our exploration of the piano works of Stravinsky, with his two piano version of the Rite of Spring featuring Genadi Zagor and Edisher Savitski as pianists. Then Stravinsky's Danse sacrale from  featuring Rex Lawson, pianolist (this is a pianola performance).  The program concludes with the Sonata for Two Pianos featuring George Vatchnadze and Genadi Zagor as pianists.

All performances on this program are live except for Rachmaninoff's 1929 performance.  In this hour we'll hear Rachmaninoff's Symphonic Dances in a two-piano version featuring Vahtang Kodanashvili and Edisher Savitski as the pianists and Rachmaninoff's Excerpts from Etudes Tableau, Op. 33 featuring Edisher Savitski, piano.
