Soprano Renée Fleming adds a new role to her extensive repertory as the wealthy widow Hanna Glawari, opposite baritone Nathan Gunn as the dashing Count Danilo. Broadway star Kelli O’Hara makes her network broadcast debut in the comic role of Valencienne, The cast also features tenor Alek Shrader and baritone Thomas Allen, conducted by Sir Andrew Davis. The new production, by Tony Award-winning director and choreographer Susan Stroman, is performed in an English translation by Jeremy Sams. The Merry Widow will be heard live over the Toll Brothers-Metropolitan Opera International Radio Network at 12:00 p.m. CT on Saturday, January 17.

The performance, sung in English and presented as part of the Met's holiday series, stars soprano Heidi as Gretel; mezzo-soprano Christine Rice in her network broadcast debut as Hansel; tenor Robert as the wicked Witch who captures them; and Michaela Martens and Dwayne Croft as the parents of the wayward children; Sir Andrew Davis conducts. Hansel and Gretel was the opera that inaugurated the Met's long-running series of live matinee radio broadcasts, on Christmas Day, 1931. Hansel and Gretel will be heard live over the Toll Brothers-Metropolitan Opera International Radio Network at 12:00 p.m. CT on Saturday, January 3.
