Girls on the Run chapter launches in Shreveport

A new Shreveport nonprofit will begin delivering its mission next month to empower girls in third through eighth grade through a 12-week program called Girls on the Run. Shreveport is the newest council addition to Girls on the Run International. 

Executive director Beth Ann Menger was involved in the organization when she lived in Washington, D.C. When she moved to Shreveport two years ago, she was determined to bring Girls on the Run here.

Tennessee firm opens airway disease center in Shreveport

A Nashville, Tenn.-based health care company that operates treatment centers for airway diseases like allergies and asthma has opened a location in Shreveport. It’s the sixth BreatheAmerica location in the U.S.  The physician-led practice will consist of allergists, pulmonologists, and ear nose and throat surgeons connected with LSU Health Shreveport, Willis-Knighton Health System, and private practice, according to BreatheAmerica's executive vice president of operations Ron Charpentier.

Shreveport Home Depot employees spearhead improvements at veterans home

Employees from Shreveport Home Depot stores completed a number of building projects for veterans. They've built a bus shelter adjacent to the Volunteers of America Veterans Transitional Housing Program facility. The employees used their day off Friday to to serve veterans. Jack Parker, a store manager, has worked for Home Depot 21 years. He said he’s been a part of Team Depot volunteerism since he started with the company.

'Object' painting show is debut for Shreveport digital artists

Two Shreveport digital artists open their first fine art show tonight at artspace in downtown Shreveport. The exhibit, “Object,” features mostly acrylic paintings by Joe Bluhm and Adam Volker. By day, the two are co-workers at Moonbot Studios. But outside of work, they’re finding an outlet on the canvas. Bluhm finds painting moves him in a different creative direction – that’s tangible.

Filmmaker emotions run high on eve of LA Film Prize

Filmmakers in the running for the Louisiana Film Prize are beginning to assemble in Shreveport to promote their films during the weekend festival. Twenty short films are vying for the $50,000 cash prize. Memphis filmmakers Christopher Raines and Candace McGowen caravanned to Shreveport with a crew in June to shoot their film “5ive Courses.”  Now in the finals, McGowen said, she’s feeling a gamut of emotions.
