'Origami dragon guy' to give demonstration at Bossier Arts Council

A Hot Springs, Arkansas, still life artist who builds origami dragon scenes as the basis for his paintings will give an artist workshop Monday at the Bossier Arts Council Annex in Bossier City.

Bastrop, La.-native Daniel Mark Cassity will show other artists how he accomplishes his glazing technique. Cassity says it’s a long, slow process that requires immense patience.

Shreveport museum presents European masterpieces in Kasten Collection

Paintings that are part of the Kasten Art Collection go on display today at the R.W. Norton Art Gallery in Shreveport. The Kasten Family of South Carolina has amassed works by British and European painters completed between the 1860s and 1920s. The Norton’s Emily Young said 32 pieces are on display in two galleries. It’s the second stop of a nationwide tour. She says the works – many impressionistic  – have a common trait: paintings within paintings.

Norton Art Gallery set to display Vietnam War photos

Vietnam War combat correspondent Bob Spangler of Longview, Texas, stands in a gallery that features 80 select photos he took during his tour in the 10th Public Information Detachment.

The R.W. Norton Art Gallery in Shreveport will display 80 photos of Vietnam soldiers, taken by combat correspondent Bob Spangler of Longview. The exhibit opens Tuesday and runs through Oct. 14. The Norton's oral history project has amassed hundreds of interviews with veterans over the past decade.
