Soprano Renée Fleming adds a new role to her extensive repertory as the wealthy widow Hanna Glawari, opposite baritone Nathan Gunn as the dashing Count Danilo. Broadway star Kelli O’Hara makes her network broadcast debut in the comic role of Valencienne, The cast also features tenor Alek Shrader and baritone Thomas Allen, conducted by Sir Andrew Davis. The new production, by Tony Award-winning director and choreographer Susan Stroman, is performed in an English translation by Jeremy Sams. The Merry Widow will be heard live over the Toll Brothers-Metropolitan Opera International Radio Network at 12:00 p.m. CT on Saturday, January 17.

The 2013-14 Metropolitan Opera Radio Broadcast season continues with a live broadcast of Dvořák’s lyrical fairy tale Rusalka, starring Renée Fleming in one of her signature roles. Yannick Nézet-Séguin leads the cast that also includes Piotr Beczala as the Prince, Dolora Zajick as the witch Ježibaba, Emily Magee in her network broadcast debut as the Foreign Princess, and John Relyea as Rusalka’s father, the Water Gnome. Rusalka will be heard live over the Toll Brothers-Metropolitan Opera International Radio Network.

This is an unusual and non-traditional production of André Previn's operatic adaptation of the Tennessee Williams' play A Streetcar Named Desire. Staring in this production are Renee Fleming as Blance DuBois and Teddy Tahu Rhodes as Stanley Kowalski with Susannah Philips as Stella Kowalski and Anthony Dean Griffey as Harold “Mitch” Mitchell. The cast and crew are directed by Brad Dalton and the Lyric Opera Orchestra is conducted by Evan Rogister.
