The 2016-17 Metropolitan Opera Radio Broadcast season continues with a revival of Rossini’s comedy L’Italiana in Algeri, conducted by the Met’s Music Director Emeritus James Levine. The comedic opera, heard in an archived performance from October, tells the story of a feisty Italian girl who gets kidnapped in Algiers, but tricks her captors and saves the day. Mezzo-soprano Marianna Pizzolato and tenor René Barbera made their respective company debuts as the title character, Isabella, and the love-struck Lindoro, whom she rescues.

Airs Saturday, September 17, at 12 noon. This week the San Francisco Opera Orchestra and Chorus are featured in Gioachino Rossini's Barber of Seville staring Lucas Meachem as Figaro, Daniela Mack as Rosina, René Barbera as Count Almaviva, and Alessandro Corbelli as Doctor Bartolo. The production also features Andrea Silvestrelli as Don Basilio, Catherine Cook as Berta, Edward Nelson as Fiorello, Efraín Solís in the role of Ambrogio, and Matthew Stump plays An officer.

This week from the Lyric Opera of Chicago they will perform Der Rosenkavalier by Richard Strauss starring Sophie Koch as Octavian, Amanda Majeski as Marschallin, Christina Landshamer as Sophie, and Matthew Rose as Baron Ochs, with Martin Gantner as Faninal, Rene Barbera as A Singer, Megan Marino as Annia, and Rodell Rosel as Valzacchi. Michael Black is the chorus master, Marina Weber directs and the Lyric Opera Orchestra and Chorus is under the direction of Edward Gardner.

Airs Saturday, October 31, at 12 noon. This week the San Francisco Opera present's Hector Berlioz's Les Troyens starring Anna Caterina Antonacci as Cassandra, Susan Graham as Dido, Bryan Hymel as Aeneas, and Sasha Cooke as Anna, with Brian Mulligan as Chorebus, Christian Van Horn as Narbal, and René Barbera as Iopas. David McVicar directs this production with Ian Robertson as chorus master and San Francisco Opera Orchestra and Chorus under the direction of David Runnicles.

Airs Saturday, October 10, at 12 noon. This week from the San Francisco Opera we present Gioachino Rossini's beloved fairytale, La Cenerentola (Cinderella) starring Karine Deshayes in the title role, René Barbera as Don Ramiro, and Efrain Solis as Dandini, with Carlos Chausson in the role of Don Magnifico, Christian Van Horn as Alidoro, Maria Valdes plays Clorinda, and Zanda Svede as Tisbe. Gregory Fortner directs and the San Francisco Opera Orchestra and Chorus under the direction of Jesus López-Cobos and Ian Robertson as Chorus Master. Dianne Nicolini will host.
