The broadcast, taped last fall, stars soprano Pretty Yende as the princess Pamina; tenor Toby Spence as the prince Tamino; baritone Markus Werba as Papageno the birdcatcher; bass René Pape as the high priest Sarastro; and Macedonian soprano Ana Durlovski in her network broadcast debut as the Queen of the Night. The performance was conducted by Adam Fischer.

This week the LA Opera presents the sultry, love fueled opera Carmen by George Bizet featuring Patricia Bardon as Carmen, with Brandon Jovanovich as Don José, Pretty Yende as Micaëla, Ildebrando D’Arcangelo as Escamillo, with Valentin Anikin as Zuniga, Daniel Armstrong in the role of Moralès, Hae Ji Chang as Frasquita, and Cassandra Zoé Velasco as Mercédès. Plácido Domingo leads the LA Opera Orchestra and Chorus in this production.

Tenor Juan Diego Flórez will reprise his acclaimed portrayal of the amorous title character, first seen at the Met in 2011. The 27-year-old South African soprano Pretty Yende makes her network debut as Adèle, the beautiful noblewoman that Ory schemes to seduce.
