North Louisiana nonprofits gear up for 'Give for Good'

The Community Foundation of North Louisiana is organizing its third year of “Give for Good” day. That’s a 24-hour online fundraising blitz to help area nonprofits.

A Shreveport-based electronics recycling business has created a fundraising model for organizations to make money from e-waste deposited in recycling receptacles.

Pandabit CEO John-Scott Thompson says his “feed the panda” campaigns are catching on. He has five employees who are running two campaigns a week. Thompson splits proceeds with an organization 50-50.

A Shreveport nonprofit counseling agency is recognizing its 125 years in existence, and opening up its annual meeting to the public Tuesday. The Center for Families began as the Genevieve Orphanage in 1889. Today, it provides mental health services to more than 860 people a year, according to The Center for Families CEO Laura Brucia Hamm. She said the agency strives to be transparent and this annual meeting will be an opportunity to tell its story.
