The Green Agora would transform a Natchitoches warehouse into a green building.
A Natchitoches, La.-based businesswoman aims to open a business incubator in the town, which will include a marketplace for fresh produce and cottage industries. Donna Isaacs launched a fundraising campaign this week to renovate a warehouse in Natchitoches. It would be home to what she calls “The Green Agora.”
"It's based on the concept of the Greek public square and the center of the community," Isaacs said. "Not only were ideas and individuals nurtured, but so were businesses."
A new biography of the late folk artist Clementine Hunter offers a fuller portrait of her life, from domestic servant at Melrose Plantation in Natchitoches Parish to artistic fame as a widely-collected painter and muralist. Coauthor Tom Whitehead says he draws from the many visits he had with Hunter that went on for nearly two decades. Whitehead will sign copies of "Clementine Hunter: Her Life and Art" at Barnes and Noble, Sept. 15, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The funeral of J.D. Garrett, 74, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Natchitoches Events Center. The city pool manager was affectionately called Coach Garrett because he held so many coaching positions. He had a passion for teaching children to swim, and spent nearly 60 years working at the city pools.
