Shreveport architect Mike McSwain has sought out design work in China over the past two years. He says courting clients there is steeped in ancient tradition and feels like a social test.

China's booming economy has one Shreveport architecture firm expanding its horizon, taking on large commercial design projects a world away in Beijing and Chengdu. Mike McSwain says he hopes to open a satellite office in Chengdu to help manage the workflow of Chinese projects. His firm is currently designing a senior citizen housing project in Beijing and a research park in Chengdu.
