Former astronaut Dr. Story Musgrave plans to tell his Longview audience to follow all the forks in the road in their life journeys.

He’s known as one of the most versatile astronauts and he’s coming to Longview to give a talk. Dr. Story Musgrave has pursued many different career paths. He’s a physician and landscape architect. A biophysicist and business consultant. He participated in six Space Shuttle missions, and left NASA in 1997. Today, he yearns for the passion of the space-race heyday of the 1960s, when he was tapped to be an astronaut.

Survey finds more women than men in East Texas homeless shelters

For the first time, women make up the majority of homeless people seeking emergency shelter. Hiway 80 Rescue Mission in Longview is preparing to expand its women's and family shelter.

A Longview, Texas, homeless shelter is preparing to build a larger women’s and family shelter. The Hiway 80 Rescue Mission has seen a spike in homeless women over the past seven months. It’s currently housing 65 women and children, up from 25 at this time last year, according to associate director Rusty Fennell.

“We’re over bed capacity already. We’ve been over bed capacity for awhile,” Fennell said.
