The Center for a Livable World at Stephen F. Austin State in Nacogdoches, Texas, will gain input from a renowned peace activist. Arun Gandhi, the grandson of Mahatma Gandhi, will serve as a senior fellow at the center.

Bob Barker summons chimps: 'Come on Down!'

TV game show host celebrity Bob Barker visited the chimpanzee sanctuary in Keithville, La., Chimp Haven, to herald the opening of a new habitat made possible through his $500,000 gift from his animal rights charity. Barker rescued five elderly chimps, infected with HIV and hepatitis, from a shuttered sanctuary in Texas.

Wiley College senior Chad Mossman of Houston is preparing for a three-week mission trip to Nairobi, Kenya. He's developing an internship that will create more connections between non-governmental organizations in rural Kenya and Wiley, a historically black college in Marshall, Texas.

U.S. Forest Service volunteers catalog artifacts near Goldonna, La.

Volunteers in the U.S. Forest Service Passport in Time program participate in a weeklong project to catalog artifacts in the Winn Ranger District.

Thousands of prehistoric Caddo artifacts have been inspected and cataloged with the held of volunteers from seven states. They participated in a project last week through the U.S. Forest Service's Passport in Time program. The volunteers met in the Winn Ranger District to complete lab work from a dig at the Drake Salt Works Complex.

LSU Shreveport digital media certificate program seeks 60 students

LSU Shreveport animation and visual effects program director John Miralles says the new non-credit program in digital media will improve the high-tech labor market in Shreveport.

A $500,000 grant from the Caddo Parish Commission will establish a yearlong, non-credit certificate program in digital media at LSU Shreveport. Program director John Miralles says applicants must have completed high school will go through a rigorous evaluation process before being admitted to the 35-hour per week program taught by area industry professionals.
