The Met’s first live Saturday matinee broadcast of this opera in 25 years features a cast of leading bel canto singers. Soprano Angela Meade stars in the title role as the Babylonian queen who conceals a dark secret, with mezzo-soprano Elizabeth DeShong as Arsace, the young warrior she chooses to be king.

The 2016-17 Metropolitan Opera Radio Broadcast season continues with a live broadcast of Bellini’s I Puritani, starring soprano Diana Damrau and tenor Javier Camarena, who add new roles to their Met repertories as Elvira, the heroine driven to madness, and her beloved Lord Arturo Talbot. Maurizio Benini conducts the bel canto masterpiece, which also stars baritone Alexey Markov as Riccardo Forth, the Puritan leader in love with Elvira, and bass-baritone Luca Pisaroni as Elvira’s uncle, Giorgio Walton.

Airs Saturday, March 12, at 12 noon. The 2015-16  Metropolitan Opera Radio Broadcast season continues with a live broadcast of Donizetti’s comedic masterpiece Don Pasquale. Baritone Ambrogio Maestri sings the title role for the first time in his career this season, alongside show-stopping tenor Javier Camarena as Pasquale’s nephew, the lovelorn Ernesto. Italian soprano Eleonora Buratto, fresh off her Met debut, is the bewitching Norina, and baritone Levente Molnár is the wily Doctor Malatesta, in a performance conducted by Maurizio Benini.

San Francisco Opera

Airs Saturday, October 4 at 12 noon. This week the San Francisco Opera brings us Gioachino Rossini's Il Barbiere di Siviglia starring Ao Li as Fiorello and Javier Camarena as Count Almaviva with Alessandro Corbelli as Doctor Bartolo, Lucas Meachem as Figaro, Isabel Leonard as Rosina, Andrea Silvestrelli as Don Basilio, Catherine Cook as Berta, A.J. Glueckert as Ambrogio, Andrew Truett as the Notary, and Hadleigh Adams as An Officer. Giuseppe Finzi conducts and Dianne Nicolini will host.

Airs Friday, March 29 at 12 noon. The 2013-14 Metropolitan Opera Radio Broadcast season continues with a live broadcast of Bellini’s La Sonnambula. This run marks soprano Diana Damrau's first-ever performances in the title role of the sleepwalking Amina. The broadcast also stars rising Mexican tenor Javier Camarena as Amina's fiance, Elvino, and Italian bass Michele Pertusi as Count Rodolfo, conducted by Marco Armiliato. La Sonnambula will be heard live over the Toll Brothers-Metropolitan Opera International Radio Network.
