Met Music Director Emeritus James Levine conducts his third broadcast of the 2016-17 Metropolitan Radio Broadcast season, Mozart’s early masterpiece Idomeneo. The opera, which Levine first conducted at the Met in 1982, stars tenor Matthew Polenzani in his Met role debut as the king Idomeneo, with soprano Nadine Sierra in her role debut as Ilia, soprano Elza van den Heever as Elettra, mezzo-soprano Alice Coote as Idomeneo’s son Idamante, and baritone Alan Opie as Idomeneo’s confidant Arbace.

Airs, Saturday, November 3 at 2:00 p.m. The Mozart Festival is recorded in Mozart's hometown of Salzburg, Austria and includes performances by some of the world's leading soloists and orchestras, backstage clips with performers, and location-recorded features touring the Mozarteum Foundation's priceless collections, including Mozart's original manuscripts and personal possessions. On this week's program we'll hear conductor David Afkham along with soprano Mojca Erdmann and the Mozarteum Orchestra Salzburg in Mozart's Recitative and Aria, “Quando avran fine omai – Padre, germani, addio!” from Idomeneo. Then we'll hear pianist Robert Levinon, violinist Frank Stadler and cellist Peter Sigl in Mozart Trio in B-flat and the program concludes with the menuetto and trio presto from Mozart's Symphony in C, “the Linz."
