The 2017-18 Metropolitan Opera Radio Broadcast season continues with the second of its English-language family-friendly presentations this holiday season, Humperdinck’s Hansel and Gretel. Donald Runnicles conducts, and the cast features soprano Lisette Oropesa as Gretel, mezzo-soprano Tara Erraught as Hansel, tenor Gerhard Siegel as the evil Witch, veteran mezzo-soprano Dolora Zajick as Gertrude, the children’s mother, and baritone Quinn Kelsey as Peter, their father.

Airs Saturday, December 24, at 12 noon. The 2016-17 Metropolitan Opera Radio Broadcast season continues with an archival broadcast of Humperdinck’s Hansel and Gretel, in an English-language performance from January 1, 2008. Vladimir Jurowski led the performance, with soprano Christine Schäfer as Gretel; mezzo-soprano Alice Coote as Hansel; mezzo-soprano Rosalind Plowright and baritone Alan Held as their parents, Gertrude and Peter; and the late tenor Philip Langridge as the wicked Witch.

Airs Saturday, January 3 at 12 noon.  The 2014-15 Metropolitan Opera Radio Broadcast season continues with a live broadcast of Humperdinck’s Hansel and Gretel. The performance, sung in English and presented as part of the Met's holiday series, stars soprano Heidi as Gretel; mezzo-soprano Christine Rice in her network broadcast debut as Hansel; tenor Robert as the wicked Witch who captures them; and Michaela Martens and Dwayne Croft as the parents of the wayward children; Sir Andrew Davis conducts. Hansel and Gretel was the opera that inaugurated the Met's long-running series of live matinee radio broadcasts, on Christmas Day, 1931. Hansel and Gretel will be heard live over the Toll Brothers-Metropolitan Opera International Radio Network at 12:00 p.m. CT on Saturday, January 3.

Airs Saturday, June 8 at 12 noon.  Join us this Saturday at noon for an operatic double feature with Richard Strauss' Elektra sung in German and Engelbert Humperdinck's Hansel & Gretel also sung in German. Elektra features in the title roll, Emily Magee as Chrysothemis, Jill Grove as Clytemnestra with Alan Held as Orestes and Roger Honeywell as Aegisthus. Sir Andrew Davis conducts this production directed by David McVicar.      In Hansel & Gretel Elizabeth DeShong plays Hansel and Maria Kanyova plays Gretel with Jill Grove as the Witch, Julie Makerov as the Mother and Brian Mulligan as the father. Eric Einhorn directs this production with Ward Stare conducting.
