Holiday Specials

Airs Friday, November 27 at 9:00 p.m. After taking a year off, the Dave Matthews Band returned to the studio with their old friend and producer Steve Lillywhite. The result is the album Away From The World. The title came from a line in one of the songs, and it takes on a larger meaning looking at the album as a whole. Dave has never shied away from talking about society and the need to take action to change things in the world. In this one hour radio special, you'll hear Dave talk about the songs from Away From The World, as well as highlights from the record.

Capitol Steps Politics Takes a Holiday Year End Review
Airs Wednesday, December 31 at 7 p.m.
Repeats Thursday, January 1 at 7 p.m.
Help say good-bye and good riddance to 2014 with the Capitol Steps and their annual year-end review.  It’s all in their hour-long special of “Politics Takes a Holiday!”  This year will feature all-new awards, such as: “Is that guy jumping the White House fence or is he just really into Michelle’s ‘Get Moving’ campaign?  “You say ISIS, I say ISIL.  Let’s call the whole thing off.”  And of course, “I scream, you scream, we all scream EBOLA!”

Go ahead and announce it on your social media pages, but don’t post it on the Cloud because we have some pictures we really don’t think the world is ready to see. So let’s send 2014 out like a character from Fifty Shades of Grey…with a bright red bottom.

Airs Tuesday, December 25 at 2:00 p.m. Bring a Torch! This year's program puts the focus on old French carols, alongside two world premieres in the annual VocalEssence/American Composers Forum Christmas carol contest. The new carols call for the intriguing combination of men's chorus with English horn. Long a favorite from their appearances on A Prairie Home Companion, VocalEssence rings in the season with an all-new Welcome Christmas! It's an hour of joyful holiday music featuring the Minneapolis-based chorus, VocalEssence, and hosted for the fourteenth year by APM's John Birge.

Airs Monday, December 24 at 10:00 p.m. One of the great holiday traditions in America, the choirs of Morehouse and Spelman Colleges -- two of the most prestigious historically black institutions in the nation -- get together to present a spine-tingling concert program. This encore presentation features the best works of the last several years. It's a joyous celebration of the schools' tradition of singing excellence, with their trademark mixture of spirituals and carols. Korva Coleman hosts.
