Airs Saturday, January 3 at 12 noon. The 2014-15 Metropolitan Opera Radio Broadcast season continues with a live broadcast of Humperdinck’s Hansel and Gretel. The performance, sung in English and presented as part of the Met's holiday series, stars soprano Heidi as Gretel; mezzo-soprano Christine Rice in her network broadcast debut as Hansel; tenor Robert as the wicked Witch who captures them; and Michaela Martens and Dwayne Croft as the parents of the wayward children; Sir Andrew Davis conducts. Hansel and Gretel was the opera that inaugurated the Met's long-running series of live matinee radio broadcasts, on Christmas Day, 1931. Hansel and Gretel will be heard live over the Toll Brothers-Metropolitan Opera International Radio Network at 12:00 p.m. CT on Saturday, January 3.

This week the San Francisco Opera conclude it's season with a stellar production of Jerome Kern's Showboat starring Heidi Stober as Magnolia Hawks and Michael Todd Simpson as Gaylord Ravenal, with Bill Irwin as Cap'n Andy Hawks, Patricia Racette as Julie La Verne, Angela Renée Simpson as Queenie, Harriet Harris as Parthy Ann Hawks, Kirsten Wyatt as Ellie Mae Chipley, Morris Robinson as Joe, and John Bolton as Frank Schultz. John Demain leads the San Francisco Opera Orchstra and Chorus and Dianne Nicolini will host.
Airs Saturday, January 4 at 12 noon The 2013-14 Metropolitan Opera Radio Broadcast season continues with a live broadcast of the company’s holiday presentation, an abridged, English-language production of Mozart’s The Magic Flute. British conductor Jane Glover has made her Met debut this season leading this 100-minute presentation of Julie Taymor’s popular staging of the opera. The performance stars tenor Alek Shrader as Tamino; soprano Heidi Stober as Pamina; baritone Nathan Gunn as the bird-catcher Papageno, and bass-baritone Eric Owens as the mysterious Sarastro. American soprano Kathryn Lewek makes her network broadcast debut as the Queen of the Night. The Magic Flute will be heard live over the Toll Brothers-Metropolitan Opera International Radio Network.
