Airs Saturday, July 4, at 12 noon. On this week's broadcast from the Lyric Opera of Chicago we present George Gershwin’s classic Porgy & Bess featuring Eric Owens as Porgy and Adina Aaron as Bess with Hlengiwe Mkhwanazi as Clara; Chase Taylor as Mingo; Jermaine Smith as Sportin’ Life; Norman Garrett as Jake; Karen Slack as Serena; Bernard Holcomb as Robbins; Earl Hazell as Jim; Curtis Bannister as Peter; Veronica Chapman-Smith as Lily; and Gwendolyn Brown as Maria. Ward Stare will lead the Lyric Opera Orchestra and Chorus and Michael Black is our chorus master. Suzanne Nance will host.

Airs Tuesday, April 22 at 9 p.m. We’re celebrating Jazz Appreciation Month in April with Jazz at Lincoln Center and Guitar master Bill Frisell. He'll explore the roots of American musical style in works by George Gershwin, William Billings, Stephen Foster, and Charles Ives in “Gershwin & Beyond”.  Frisell is joined by Sam Amidon, Jason Moran, and vocalist Alicia Hall Moran to interpret the backbone of our nation’s musical legacy. Join us for “Gershwin & Beyond” this Tuesday night at 9 on Red River Radio.

Airs Monday, July 29 at 11 a.m.  This week on the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, cellist Anne Martindale Williams joins maestro Manfred Honeck on the stage for Arthur Honegger’s Cello Concerto. The concert also features  Igor Stravinsky’s Petrouchka and George Gershwin’s An American in Paris with and archival performance of Darius Milhaud’s La Creation du Monde and excerpts from Maurice Ravel’s Daphnis et Chloe Suite No. 2. Eugene Ormandy will lead the orchestra in the Ravel.
