This week we return once again to the LA Opera on the Air for a series of five performances opening up their season with a double bill featuring Puccini's Gianni Schicchi & Leoncavallo's Pagliacci. In the Puccini we'll hear Plácido Domingo as Gianni Schicchi and Arturo Chacon Cruz as Rinuccio, with Andriana Chuchman as Lauretta, Meredith Arwady as Zita, Greg Fedderly in the role of Gherardo, and Stacey Tappan as Nella.

Airs Saturday, February 6, at 12 p.m. The 2015-16 Metropolitan Opera Radio Broadcast season continues with a live broadcast of the popular verismo double bill of Mascagni’s Cavalleria Rusticana and Leoncavallo’s Pagliacci, led by Met Principal Conductor Fabio Luisi. Cavalleria Rusticana stars Violeta Urmana as Santuzza, opposite Yonghoon Lee, who adds a new role to his Met repertory as the faithless Turiddu, with Ambrogio Maestri as Alfio, the wronged husband.

Airs Saturday, April 25, at 12 noon. The 2014-15 Metropolitan Opera Radio Broadcast season continues with a live broadcast of the enduringly popular verismo double bill of Mascagni’s Cavalleria Rusticana and Leoncavallo’s Pagliacci. The performance is led by Met Principal Conductor Fabio Luisi. Marcelo Álvarez stars in both operas, as the faithless Turiddu in Cavalleria Rusticana and the heartbroken clown Canio in Pagliacci.

Airs Saturday, January 10 at 12 noon.  The 2014-15 Metropolitan Opera Radio Broadcast season continues with a live broadcast of Verdi’s tragedy Aida. Soprano Tamara Wilson makes her network broadcast debut as the Ethiopian princess Aida, opposite tenor Marcello Giordani as the Egyptian warrior Radamès. Violeta Urmana, who sang Aida with the company in 2009 and 2012, makes her first Met appearances as the Egyptian princess Amneris, and George Gagnidze returns to the role of Aida's father, Amonasro. Marco Armiliato conducts. Aida will be heard live over the Toll Brothers-Metropolitan Opera International Radio Network at 12:00 p.m. CT on Saturday, January 10.

Airs Saturday, December 28 at 12 noon. The 2013-14 Metropolitan Opera Radio Broadcast season continues with a live broadcast of Puccini’s Tosca, starring soprano Sondra Radvanovsky in the title role. Tenor Marcello Giordani is Tosca’s lover, the artist and revolutionary Cavaradossi, and baritone George Gagnidze is the corrupt police chief, Scarpia. Marco Armiliato leads this performance of Puccini’s celebrated tragedy. Tosca will be heard live over the Toll Brothers-Metropolitan Opera International Radio Network.
