David Daniels

Cory Weaver / San Francisco Opera

Airs Saturday, October 3, at 12 noon. This week from the San Francisco Opera, Danielle de Niese takes the title role in George Frideric Handel's Partenope, with David Daniels as Arsace, Daniela Mack in the role of Rosmira, Alek Shrader as Emilio, Anthony Roth Costanzo as Armindo, and Philippe Sly as Ormonte. Christopher Alden directs and Julian Wachner leads the San Francisco Opera Orchestra in the Performance.

Airs Wednesday, March 19 at 11 a.m. Early-music specialist Harry Bicket returns to Carnegie Hall with The English Concert for the next installment in their Handel project—the rarely heard oratorio Theodora. Featuring some of the composer’s most glorious music, this tragic work depicts the self-sacrificial love between a Christian virgin and a Roman imperial bodyguard, sung here by vocal greats Dorothea Röschmann and David Daniels. This deeply moving oratorio serves as a timeless parable of spiritual resistance to tyranny and an indictment of persecution, topics that still resonate with audiences today.

Ken Howard / Metropolitan Opera

Airs Saturday, March 8 at 12 noon. The 2013-14 Metropolitan Opera Radio Broadcast season continues with a live broadcast of the Baroque pastiche The Enchanted Island. New cast members Susan Graham (Sycorax) and Andriana Chuchman (Miranda) join many of the principal singers who appeared in the work’s world premiere at the Met two seasons ago: David Daniels as Prospero, Plácido Domingo as Neptune, Danielle de Niese as Ariel, Luca Pisaroni as Caliban, and Anthony Roth Costanzo as Ferdinand. The Enchanted Island will be heard live over the Toll Brothers-Metropolitan Opera International Radio Network.
