Airs Monday, September 30 at 11 a.m. This week on the San Francisco Symphony music director Michael Tilson Thomas returns to lead the orchestra in an all Schubert program. We open with Schubert's Overture to Alfonso und Estrelle, D.732, followed by two chamber works of Schubert, his Piano Quintet in A Major D.667, "Trout" and his Quartet in d minor, "Death and Maiden," featuring violinist Alexander Barantschik and violist Jonathan Vinocour with cellist Peter Wyrick, Scott Pingel on bass and Juho Pohjonen as pianist. Finally, Maestro Thomas lead the orchstra in Schubert's Symphony in b minor.
Airs Monday, September 9 at 11 a.m. On this week's concert by the San Francisco Symphony, James Conlon take the podium to lead the orchestra in Pictures at an Exhibition by Mussgorsky and the Symphony No. 14, Op. 135 by Shostakovich featuring soprano Olga Guyakovaand baritone Sergei Leiferkus.
Airs Monday, September 2 at 11 a.m. This week on the San Francisco Symphony maestro Vasily Petrenko will be joined on stage by violinist Joshua Bell for a stellar performance of Glazunov's Violin Concerto in A minor, Op. 82. The concert will open with the Festive Overture by Shostakovich and concludes with Elgar's Symphony No. 1 in A-flat Major, Op. 55.
Airs Saturday, August 3 at 2 p.m. This week we join the Santa Fe Chamber Music Festival again for a season of great concert and to open he season we have cellist Lynn Harrell in the Concerto for Cello, Strings and Continuo in E Minor by Vivaldi and Schubert's Piano Trio in B-Flat Major.
