Alexandria Museum of Art and plantation team up on organic market

Inglewood Plantation in Alexandria establised a 10-acre vegetable farm that was certified organic last month.

The Alexandria Museum of Art is starting a weekly green market in its parking lot, featuring the organic produce grown at Inglewood Plantation. The market is Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Folk art conservators convene in Natchitoches

The preservation of Clementine Hunter's works, like "A Funeral at Isle Brevelle," will be discussed at the "Divine Disorder, Conserving the Chaos: Conference on the Conservation of Folk and Outsider Art."

The first ever conference devoted to the preservation of folk art will be held in Natchitoches Feb. 15-16. It's put on by the National Center for Preservation Technology and Training.

Louisiana Film Prize sparks interest in filmmaking

Registrations are streaming in for the first ever Louisiana Film Prize. The contest got under way this month. The winner will receive $50,000. The one contest rule is that the short film must be shot in Shreveport-Bossier.

Lufkin museum program melds art, music and science

"A Forest Insect Alphabet" / Museum of East Texas

The Museum of East Texas sets to life its exhibit, "A Forest Insect Alphabet" in a combined program involving a printmaker, entomologist and folk singer. The program "art-science-music" is Sunday at 2 p.m. The exhibit runs through Sept. 4. Dan Maxwell reports.
