Texas Grand Slam Poetry Festival

The Alexandria Museum of Art is hosting workshops this month to prepare Rapides Parish high school students to compete in the Poetry Out Loud initiative that will lead up to the national finals in Washington, DC in May.

The Alexandria Museum of Art is expanding its collection of Louisiana art. Lt. Gov. Jay Dardenne will announce the transfer of state-owned art at a news conference Tuesday, June 16.

A new exhibit at the Alexandria Museum of Art features three artists who have Louisiana roots and have distinguished themselves on a national level.  The exhibit, “Trio: Beyond Boundaries,” celebrates the success of three African American artists: Malaika Favorite, Phoenix Savage and Alexandria native Cullen Washington Jr.

Museum executive director Catherine Pears says the museum keeps an eye on Louisiana artists who are making their mark in the art world.
