Five workshops tailored to women who work in agriculture called the Annie’s Project begin Thursday, July 9, in Ruston, La.

The national program is designed to empower female farmers and ranchers to become better managers of their farm business and build industry connections. Annie’s Project volunteer state coordinator Deborah Cross-Young says oftentimes women become farmers by way of marriage or inheritance.

Rice farmers in the four-parish Central Louisiana region are creating an association that will give them direct representation on the state's rice board.

 

Members will meet Jan. 25 in Bunkie with the USA Rice Federation.

The LSU Ag Center says the Christmas tree growing business is nearly recession proof, and there still may be room for a few more growers. Louisiana currently has 52 growers.

The Louisiana Beekeepers Association is marking a half-century of honey production in the state at its annual convention in Pineville, December 2-3.
