Summer Stages

Airs Monday, December 10 at 11:00 a.m.  This week on Summer Stages, the final flourish of the 2012 Brevard Music Festival!  Legendary pianist Andre Watts joins Keith Lockhart and the BMC Orchestra. Our season closes with director Keith Lockhart leading the orchestra and André Watts in Grieg's Piano Concerto in a minor. The concert also includes Dzubay's Shadow Dance and Berlioz' signature Symphonie Fantastique.

Airs Monday, December 3 at 11:00 a.m.  This week on Summer Stages, The Simpsons, Dolly Parton and Rachmaninoff. It's not the most obvious mix but the Westminster Choir makes it work. Hear them performing from the Spoleto Festival USA on Summer Stages from Classical Public Radio! Some of the featured works include Weelkes' In Excelsis Deo;   Esenvalds' The Long Road;   Kreek's Taaveti laul Nr. 104 (Psalm 104);  Elder's Seven Last Words from the Cross;  Crabtree's From Five Romantic Miniatures from the Simpsons;  and the Westminster Choir with Christopher Costanza, cello perform Tavener's  Svyatí.

Airs Monday, November 26 at 11:00 a.m.  Once again this week on Summer Stages we return to Charleston South. It's been called "America's most friendly city", "the most polite and hospitable city in America" and even "America's sexiest city." Charleston South Carolina proves to be one of America's most musical cities too when we drop in for a concert at the Spoleto Festival USA. The Westminster Choir has the Durufle Requiem and the Spoleto Festival USA Orchestra performs the equally sublime Siegfried Idyll. Airs Monday, November 19 at 11:00 a.m.  This week on Summer Stages, we're headed to Charleston, South Carolina, rich in history, architecture and music! Join us for a visit to the Spoleto Festival USA where the Westminster Choir provides heavenly choral masterpieces and pianist Stephen Prutsman stops by to perform Tchaikovsky's Piano Concerto No.1 with the festival orchestra. Airs Monday, November 12 at 11:00 a.m.  This week on Summer Stages it's another program jam-packed with chamber delights from the Virginia Arts Festival.  We'll have selections by Mozart and Dvorak and then violinist Tianwa Yang brings a bit of Bach and Hindemith. We'll hear Mozart's String Quartet No.23 in F and Dvorak's String Quartet No.14 in A-flat followed by Bach's Partita No.2 in D minor and the concert will close with Hindemith's Violin Sonata Op.31, No.2.  Don’t miss this stop on Summer Stages from on Red River Radio!
