The Santa Fe Chamber Music Festival

Tokyo String Quartet

This week on the Santa Fe Chamber Music Festival, the Tokyo String Quartet will present Haydn's String Quartet No. 27 in D Major, Op. 20, and then the Festival Chamber Ensemble takes on Schoenberg's Chamber Symphony No. 2 in E-flat Minor. Kerry Frumkin will host this week's concert from the Santa Fe Chamber Music Festival on Red River Radio.

Airs Saturday, September 7 at 12 noon. This week on the Cleveland Orchestra James Feddeck takes the podium with bassoonist John Clouser as soloist in Mozart's Bassoon Concerto in Bb, K. 191. The concert also features the Love Scene from Romeo and Juliet by Berlioz and Ravel's Suite No. 2 from Daphnis and Chloe.

Airs Friday, September 9 at 9 p.m.  This week on the Caravan we take trip in our First Hour with Bob Tracy as he and Lee Roundtree host and hour of works by indie artist in a program they call "Black -n- Blues. Then we'll hear a concert from the 2013 South by Southwest music festival featuring Alt J on the stage at the NPR Music Showcase held in Stubbs in Austin, ... and then in our final hour we search for the "Solace of a Prayer" with tracks from Patty Griffin, Martha Scanlan, The Eric Underwood Band, Pink Floyd, Erica Wheeler, and Bob Marley.

Airs Thursday, September 5 at 9 p.m.  For over 50 years, Preservation Hall Jazz Band has brought life to the sounds of New Orleans. Some of the original members hailed from the beginning of Jazz itself. The music that Preservation Hall Jazz Band plays has been passed down through the generations. Now they have written their first-ever album of entirely new songs that both respects their traditions and takes them into the future. In this one-hour radio special, you'll hear about the band, life in New Orleans and the new music from members Ben Jaffe, Charlie Gabriel and Rickie Monie, plus their co-producer Jim James of My Morning Jacket.

Airs Thursday, September 5 at 8:00 p.m. In music, an arrangement is the art of preparing and adapting an already written composition for presentation in other than its original form. In this episode, we listen to one of the finest jazz orchestras in our time performing a variety of great arrangements. Under the direction of Wynton Marsalis, the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra has nearly twenty years of recording and on the road experience. Their Spring 2007 tour brought them to the Savannah Music Festival, where they played this program of both classic and new arrangements.
