American Radioworks: One Child at a Time - Custom Learning in the Digital Age

Airs Sunday, October 6 at 6 p.m. Experts say technology creates new ways for schools to customize education for each student. This program documents the rise of so-called “personalized learning.” It takes listeners to schools that are reinventing their approach to education, and explores how teaching and learning change when personalization replaces one-size-fits-all in the classroom.

Saturday, October 5, 12 p.m. - 6 p.m.   Red River Radio will host a "Getting to Know You" event in Alexandria, La., at the  Alexandria Museum of Art from 12-6 p.m.on October 5, 2013.  Listeners in Alexandria, Pineville and surrounding towns are invited to come meet our staff, listen to great live music, meet our special guests, enjoy refreshments, tour the museum and its art, and win prizes! There will be a drawing every hour. Spend your Saturday with friends and family, meet new people and enjoy the amazing art! Live music presented by Smithfield Fair, Rick Adams, Giovanni De Chiaro, and John Wakefield.

Airs Friday, October 4 at 9 p.m. This week on the Caravan we'll listen to new songs from Simone Dinnerstein with Tift Merritt and Sweet Honey in the Rock plus some classic cuts by John Trudell, Norah Jones and King Curtis. For Blues at the Bottom we'll flash back to Robert Johnson and we'll hear from Neil Young. Then, in our concert Hour we'll join Chitravina Ravikiran and Rajeev Taranath for a raga recorded live at the India Nights Concert 2013 and in our final hour join us as we visit with The Bricklayer's Beautiful Daughter.

Savannah Music Festival: Bruce Molsky Live

Airs Thursday, October 3 at 8 p.m.  Bruce Molsky was born in the Bronx and fell in love with old-time music as a teenager. He moved to Virginia in the '70s, learning directly from old masters like Tommy Jarrell, and seeing how music fit into people's lives there. He has since become one of the world's most revered fiddle players, and a specialist in the music of southern Appalachia. In this episode we listen to a 2012 solo show given by Bruce Molsky at the Savannah Music Festival.
