Metropolitan Opera: Puccini's Tosca

      Airs Saturday, January 28 at 12:00 noon.  The 2011-2012 Metropolitan Opera Radio Broadcast season continues with a live broadcast of Puccini’s Tosca, starring Patricia Racette as the fiery title character, Marcelo Álvarez as her lover, the idealistic Cavaradossi, and James Morris as the villain Scarpia. Finnish conductor Mikko Franck makes his Met debut with this season’s performances of Tosca, and veteran bass Paul Plishka, whose distinguished Met career spans more than 40 years, sings the role of the Sacristan in his final Met performance.

Wesley Ducote and MinJeong Kim accompany Rapides Symphony

Airs Friday, Jan. 27, at 12 p.m. The Regional Symphony Broadcast features the Rapides Symphony performing a March 2011 concert that included young pianistsWesley Ducote and MinJeong Kim accompany the Rapides Symphony in a performance that includes Dvorak, Tchaikovsky and more. Ducote was a winner of the 2011 Red River Radio Young Artists Competition.

Savannah Music Festival - The Battle Royale

Airs Thursday, January 26 at 8:00 p.m.  An original production of the Savannah Music Festival, Battle Royale put two rhythm sections on stage (Marcus Roberts Trio and the Clayton Brothers), inviting various instrumentalists to the stage throughout the night for a good-natured cutting contest. The tradition of instrumental competition on the bandstand in jazz goes back to the origins of the music.

State of the Union Address - NPR News

Airs Tuesday, January 24 at 8:00 p.m.  On Tuesday night, January 24, President Obama delivers his State of the Union address. Facing into an election year, the President is expected to continue pushing Congress on his economic agenda. This will be President Obama's last State of the Union Address of his White House term as he heads into the 2012 presidential election campaign.  NPR will also carry the GOP response which will be given by Indiana Governor Mitch Daniels.
