Airs Monday, January 28 at 9 p.m. Thirty years after presenting its first concerts in San Francisco, the organization SFJAZZ has built a permanent home and performance venue. For its opening gala, grand masters  will rub shoulders with modern stars and the SFJAZZ Collective. This historic opening night concert of the San Francisco Jazz Center will feature an all-stars McCoy Tyner, Chick Corea, Joshua Redman, Bobby Hutcherson, Esperanza Spalding, Mary Stallings, John Handy, Pete Escovedo, Regina Carter, Bill Frisell, Jason Moran, John Santos, and Miguel Zenon.  Bill Cosby is the on stage host. WWOZ's Sondra Bibb and WBGO's Josh Jackson are the broadcast hosts.

West Of Memphis

West Of Memphis Radio Special

Airs Sunday, January 27 at 6 p.m. West of Memphis follows the events of the West Memphis Three, a case in which three teenagers — Jessie Misskelley, Damien Echols, and Jason Baldwin — were arrested for the murders of three 8-year old children; Christopher Byers, Steven Branch, and Michael Moore. The West Memphis Three were subsequently convicted of murder and remained in prison for more than 18 years. West of Memphis chronicles the history of the imprisoned men all the way up to the eventual release through interviews conducted with lawyers, judges, journalists, family members, witnesses, and the West Memphis Three themselves. This radio special details the story of the West Memphis Three case – the accused, the victims, the legal battles and the advocates. The special includes clips from new West of Memphis documentary, exclusive interviews, and music from the soundtrack.

Airs Monday, January 28 at 11:00 a.m. Red River Radio is pleased to offer an exciting opportunity for you to share world-class performances from this year's Lucerne Festival.  The award-winning production team from WQXR in New York was on the ground in Switzerland in to produce these four concert broadcasts. On this program we'll hear the Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra with Daniele Gatti conducting and violinist Frank Peter Zimmermann in Richard Wagner's Prelude to Act 3 and Good Friday Spell from Parsifal,  Alban Berg's Violin Concerto (To the Memory of an Angel), Richard Strauss' Suite from the Opera Der Rosenkavalier, and Maurice Ravel's La Valse.

Metropolitan Opera: Puccini’s La Rondine

Airs Saturday, January 26 at 12 noon.  The 2012-13 Metropolitan Opera Radio Broadcast season continues with a live broadcast of Puccini’s La Rondine. Latvian soprano Kristine Opolais makes her network debut in the role of the heroine Magda, a courtesan who dreams of true love.  Tenor Giuseppe Filianoti is Ruggero, the man for whom she leaves her glamorous life.  Soprano Anna Christy sings the role of Lisette, Magda’s maid; tenor Marius Brenciu is the poet Prunier; and baritone Dwayne Croft is Rambaldo, Magda’s wealthy protector.  Ion Marin conducts the performance. La Rondine will be heard live over the Toll Brothers-Metropolitan Opera International Radio Network at 12 p.m. CT on Saturday, January 26.

First Aid Kit at Newport Folk 2012

Airs Friday, January 25 at 9 pm. This week on the Caravan we’ll feature a lot of new tracks from bands like Grace Potter & the Nocturnals, and Black Prairie, the Alabama Shakes and the Be Good Tanyas as well as some new blues from Dr. John, Mavis Staples and Shreveport’s own Professor Porkchop and the dishes. During our live set in the second hour, we’ll feature First Aid Kit, recorded live At the Newport Folk Festival in 2012.  Tune in this Friday night at 9 pm for the Caravan here on Red River Radio.
