He was named one of the young rock starts of the conducting world by the Daily Beast. Kazem Abdullah conducts Brahms’ Tragic Overture and Hindemith’s Mathis der Mahler Symphony. Nicola Benedetti takes center stage in the Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto. Jim Cunningham is your host for Pittsburgh Symphony Radio from Public Radio International.

Airs Monday, August 25 at 11 a.m.  On this week's broadcast concert by the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra music director Manfred Honeck will be joined on stage by soprano Angela Meade, mezzo-soprano Kelley O’Connor, tenor Anthony Griffey, bass Alexander Vinogradov and the Mendelssohn Choir of Pittsburgh for a performance that opens with Christopher Theofanidis’ “The Gift" and concludes with Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9.

Also on he concert Mason Bates’ Desert Transport and Johannes Brahms’ Symphony No. 3. From the archives we'll hear violinist Bronislaw Huberman's performance of Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto and Beethoven’s ‘Victory Symphony’ from “Wellington’s Victory."
