The Lyric Opera of Chicago broadcasts returns to Red River Radio following the end of the Metropolitan Opera season with eight new productions! Since its early days, Lyric Opera of Chicago has been regarded as one of the top three US opera companies, along with the Met and San Francisco. Chicago boasts an opera company that’s second to none, with stellar casts, sets, and one of the finest orchestra in the world. Red River Radio is pleased to bring this glorious opera showcase back to our schedule. Opera lovers will enjoy and exciting season.

Lyric Opera of Chicago: Richard Rodger's Oklahoma

Airs Saturday, July 13 at 12 noon. The final production in this season from the Lyric Opera of Chicago feature the  first musical written by the team of composer Richard Rodgers and librettist Oscar Hammerstein II. This performance features John Cudia in the lead roll of Curley McLain with Ashley Brown as Laurey Williams. David Adam Moore is featured as Jud Fry, Tari Kelly sings Ado Annie, Curtis Holbrook appears as Will Parker and Paula Scrofano plays Aunt Eller. Gary Griffin directs and James Lowe leads the orchestra in Oklahoma from the Lyric Opera of Chicago.

Lyric Opera of Chicago: André Previn's A Streetcar Named Desire

Airs Saturday, July 6 at 12 noon.  This week on the Lyric Opera of Chicago, an unusual and non-traditional production of André Previn's operatic adaptation of the Tennessee Williams' play A Streetcar Named Desire. Staring in this production are Renee Fleming as Blance DuBois and Teddy Tahu Rhodes as Stanley Kowalski with Susannah Philips as Stella Kowalski and Anthony Dean Griffey as Harold “Mitch” Mitchell. The cast and crew are directed by Brad Dalton and the Lyric Opera Orchestra is conducted by Evan Rogister.

Airs Saturday, June 29 at 12 noon  Join the Lyric Opera of Chicago for Giuseppe Verdi's Rigoletto (in Italian) featuring Zelko Lucic as Rigoletto with Albina Shagimuratova as Gilda, Giuseppe Filianoti as Duke, Andrea Silvestrell as Sparafucile, and Nicole Piccolomini in the role of Maddalena. Stephen Barlow directs and Evan Rogister conducts this performance.

This week on the Lyric Opera of Chicago one of Giacomo Puccini's most beloved works is featured when he Lyric Opera of Chicago presents La Boheme (in Italian) with Anna Netrebko as Mimì; Joseph Calleja as Rodolfo; Elizabeth Futral as Musetta; Lucas Meachem as Marcello and Andrea Silvestrelli as Colline. Emmanuel Villaume conducts this production which is directed by Louisa Muller.
