Airs Friday, July 27 at 12:00 noon.  The world is turning to London this month as the 2012 Olympic Games kick off. Timed to end exactly one minute before the Opening Ceremony begins, APM presents a fabulous live broadcast from the world's largest classical music festival, the London-based BBC Proms! Join APM's Fred Child as he hosts the two-hour program featuring the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra in Beethoven's triumphant Symphony No. 9. The broadcast will begin with a music-rich pre-games feature, hosted by Fred Child, including highlights of the BBC Proms as well as brief colorful comments from Daniel Barenboim, Olympic athletes, and London locals.

In 1999, Daniel Barenboim, together with the late Palestinian literary scholar Edward Said and by invitation of the Kunstfest Weimar, created a workshop for young musicians from Israel and Palestine and various Arab countries of the Middle East seeking to enable intercultural dialogue and to promote the experience of collaborating on a matter of common interest. Daniel Barenboim and Edward Said named the Orchestra and workshop after Johann Wolfgang von Goethe’s collection of poems entitled “West-Eastern Divan”, a central work for the evolution of the concept of world culture.
